Did you know that the emperor penguin can get through the water and leap onto an ice shelf
Did you know that THE PENGUIN traps air in its feather.
Not only does this insulate the bird against extreme
cold but it also enables it to move three or four times faster than it otherwise could.
Marine biologists have suggested that it does so by releasing tiny
bubbles from between its feathers. As these bubbles are released, they reduce friction

Marine biologists have suggested that it does so by releasing tiny
bubbles from between its feathers. As these bubbles are released, they reduce friction
on the surface of the Bird's plumage, enabling it to accelerate.
Engineers have been studying ways to make ships go faster by using bubbles to
reduce friction against their hulls, but the complexity of penguin's plumage
would be difficult to replicate in a man-made porous membrane or mesh. I hope it will be possible in the future.
